Hands-on review by Van Adventure Gear — tested in real UK conditions.
Quick Verdict
Best for: Fast, efficient boil + compact van/trail cooking
Avoid if: You want a full cook setup with multiple burners
The Jetboil Flash boils water faster than you can decide what pasta sauce you like, and the built-in cooking cup and French press attachment makes it a brilliant all-in-one camping stove for mornings and dinners alike.
What we liked
- Rapid boil technology (boils water in ~100 seconds)
- Integrated cooking cup with heat exchanger
- Silicone French press for coffee lovers
- Compact, light and backpacker-friendly
Hands-on test notes
We used this on weekend trips across the UK — from Scottish lochs to Dartmoor moors — and it was brilliant for breakfast coffee and quick noodles.
Pop the Jetboil out of the cupboard, connect the propane/isobutane canister, and before you’ve unpacked your socks, you’ve got boiling water. The cup acts as both stove body and cooking pot, which is chef’s kiss for streamlining kit.
The silicone French press is a nice bonus if you actually like coffee — as opposed to the instant sludge that most camp brews resemble. And yes, it makes proper espresso-style coffee… if you don’t spill it trying to set up while your friend tells van jokes.
On that note: we learned that trying to boil water while arguing about whether beans count as a “meal” can extend your lunch break by a very long time. But Jetboil wasn’t the culprit — just us.
It’s not perfect if you want to cook a full fry-up, but if what you want is:
👉 Fast tea
👉 Great coffee
👉 Quick meals
This does all of them without fuss.
Final Verdict
If you want a stove that actually makes sense on the road, the Jetboil Flash is a fantastic mix of speed, convenience and simplicity. For van life breakfasts and quick dinners, it’s hard to beat — and for coffee lovers it’s almost too good (sorry instant, you’re benched).
